Are you in year 12?
If so, we are looking for you!
Is your daughter/son in Year 12?
If so, you won’t want to miss this !
Do you find yourself wondering where the time went, and how fast the past 17/18 years has gone by. Do you still look down into your arms and see them laying there as a baby?
I do.My eldest daughter is in year 12 this year, and I cannot believe how fast the time has gone. I have found myself reflecting on all the things I wish I had’ve done over the years, such as had more photos of her as a baby, taken more time to sit and watch her play, watch her giggle, watch her grow.
Don’t get me wrong, I was lucky enough to be a stay at home mum, I seen all the important milestone’s, they are all in my memory. But what I failed to forget was, she would grow up one day, and want to see these milestones herself.
I have totally kicked myself over the years and can’t believe I didn’t think to get the camera out more, or better still, had professional photos made of all of us every few years.
I would love to show the kids photos of me when I was pregnant with each of them, and to be honest, I would really love to see photos of my mum pregnant with me, those are memories we need to share on paper, not just in our head.
One of the reasons I got into photography was I couldn’t find a photographer that would capture my kids the way I seen them. The way they were everyday. I wanted the sad looks, happy laughs, and even the serious thinking photos. I wanted professional photos of everything to do with them as little people, after all, we were going to put something on the wall’s anyway, why not be art works of our kids..!
This is where my journey began, and has taken some fantastic turns along the way. This latest journey, is going to be the most exciting to date. As it affects us as a family for the next 6 years. ( wtih the first of three girls that will enter and leave yr 12 )
Sorry the post is long, but this is a time of reflection for me as a Mum, along with a time of letting go ( well just a little bit ). I feel this latest project we are doing is so very important, and I really hope you do too.
From yr 7 to yr 12 our children go through the most amazing growth as they become little people into big people. They go from being our ‘ baby’ to one who thinks for themselves, won’t wear what you buy from the shops, and tells you when to come pick them up from a party or the shopping centre, stops cuddling up to you every night on the lounge, and that strange voice that you hear back chatting you for no reason.. where did THAT come from ?
I have watched my daughters’ growth the past few years, and can honestly say we ‘did good’ she dress’s in her own unique style, never seems to stress over what people think and life to her right now is great, school, parties, boys and the world at her feet !
Luckily for me, I have been capturing the past 5 years on paper, we often sit and go through the photos we have and what she looked like only a few years ago, although she gets embarrassed, I get to ‘see’ my little girl go from ‘my little girl’ to the wonderful young confident lady she is today.
I love this year for her, we have sat many nights talking about it, this is probably the only year she can call ‘ her year’..
This is the most single important year of her life, it’s all about change, she becomes the most senior class in all her school life, she gets to drive a car on the road, turns 18 and becomes old enough to vote, there are no set times in which she must be home, to be able to hang out with your friends at the pub for the first time in your life, along with planning holidays with them, gosh the list of things for this one year for her goes on and on, but most importantly, I get to see the lovely young person she has turned into, and I get to sit back and be there for her now.. my job is done.. ( well not really, but you know what I mean)
This is the year she becomes one, and the rest of her life now starts. I am so excited for her journey to start, for her book to be written, it’s one exciting year, that’s for sure..!
Photos from this year, could be the last time you get to see your son/daughter in professional photos until their wedding ! Now that’s a scary thought, but true.
Spoil
yourself, book them in for a photo session, and capture them as they are right now, for life; for them to look back on, for their kids to see what they looked like at 18, but more importantly, for them to have a little fun, being themselves. Let them be totally 'them', in their own comfortable skin, ear spacers and all, this is all about them, and I want to make them feel like a star for a few hours !
Not only will you be so glad you did, you will also be helping other kids in the mean time.
Check out the blub from the website below and don’t hesitate in getting to that phone to call. We are expecting this to go OFF..!!!
